The students of Maassafarah Academy’s Tahfiz program have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in this year’s Annual Qur’an Recitation Competition held in Abuja last week. Over 70 students from various classes participated, showcasing their mastery of tajweed, memorization, and beautiful recitation.
The competition, organized by the academy in collaboration with local Islamic scholars, aims to encourage students to perfect their Qur’an memorization while fostering confidence and public speaking skills. According to the Head of Tahfiz, Sheikh Abubakar, the goal is not only memorization but nurturing students’ spiritual growth and leadership qualities.
The event featured students reciting from different Juz’ sections, with judges scoring their accuracy, pronunciation, and adherence to tajweed rules. Parents and teachers cheered the participants, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and celebration.
Winners were awarded certificates and special Qur’an editions, while all participants received encouragement awards for their hard work. The first-place winner, Abdulrahman S., impressed the judges by flawlessly reciting Juz’ Amma from memory in front of a large audience.
In addition to recitation, students presented short speeches about the importance of memorizing the Qur’an and its application in daily life. This encouraged younger students to aspire for excellence and strengthened the community’s appreciation of Qur’anic studies.
The Principal of Maassafarah Academy, Sheikh Shu'aib, praised the students for their commitment, noting, “Our Tahfiz students are not only memorizing the Qur’an; they are internalizing its values and sharing it with the world. This competition is a celebration of their faith, discipline, and academic spirit.”
